I have been missing for about a week now - enjoying life with dear friends over the Christmas holidays. I am back now - ready to face a brand new year!! My first entry for the year 2016.
Here it is that time of the year again – when loads of
people post greetings wishing friends and families best wishes for the new
year. Every year, millions of people across the globe make promises to
themselves (and to loved ones) to change certain aspects of themselves or their
life-styles. New Year resolutions have become a “tradition.” But far too many
make them without thought or conviction.
So, what’s the difference if it is 1st January of a year or
any other day of the year? Every day is a new beginning, is it not?
But we are just regular mortals – so used to structure and
limits and patterns of behaviour. We just fall in line because we have been
trained to do so. The question is – do we
need to do as others do? Perhaps the more important questions are, do we want
to remain the same day-in and day-out? Are we ready for something different?
Are we willing to really change for a better tomorrow? No – not tomorrow – a better
today?
Like everyone else – I looked to the end of the year to
remind me of the wondrous joys and blessings that have come my way over the
years. This is not to say that I do not think of these things throughout the
year nor that I never give thanks for them except for this one day in the
year. But it is a marker to remind me
again (especially on this day) to dedicate a little more time contemplating all
that has been in the past year – the so called good and the so called bad.
I was about to write my blog entry yesterday with the title “Bad
Choices” or “Bad Decisions.” But the
desire to finish up the e-book I have been reading kept me going thru to the
early hours of the morning (when most other people were else where counting
down to the new year and celebrating with friends and families). I have
finished the e-book, but I think I shall keep that other blog entry till a
little later. For now, I have something else in mind.
The new year – 2016.
Good wishes flashing in on my whatsapp and on my FB accounts. I see them
flying from people to people as well. So
much good wishes. Surely the accumulation of such positive energy must impact
us all – and will surely lead to some cosmic breakthrough if not for the world –
then for just you and me – small pockets of people. Right?
Two things I want to share – one was a message that came to
me from a friend. The picture that
follows shows it. I thought – wow. This
is good. I want to share this with the
world - with all of you:
When I booted up my notebook to log on
to the net, one of the first places I go to (like a daily routine – was of
course FB). And a surprise came on – in the
form of a live message from a friend from a long time ago. She was once my student and now all grown up
with a family of her own. Her message to
me:
“Happy
New Year, dear Syl! You don't live in Msia anymore? Still practising,I see! So
great. You were my first psychology instructor, you know... changed my life! Thank
you for everything All
these years and I still tell my clients that there are no negative emotions and
that everything we feel is valid. I do believe it came from you.”
What a great way to start the day. In
fact, what a great way to start the new year. It was like a message from the
heavens reminding me to be steadfast in what I am doing – staying the course.
We all have a part to play in impacting the lives of others (and ultimately ourselves).
This was a most appreciated new year
gift. Surely unexpected – and deeply
appreciated. I was so moved - I really didn't know what to say in response. Took me a while before I could reply. This is the second thing I want to share in this entry.
Life is GREAT. We need to just open our eyes and our hearts
to the wonders that surround us – everyday of our lives. There are beautiful
messages for us all the time; angels disguised all around us. Look at life with the
eyes of a child – and be in awe. Great
things are happening all the time.
I will make this short. Just want to take a moment to thank
everyone of you – for playing a part in my life. Whether you know it or not;
intended or not; whether I know it or not – you have all in one way or another
touched a part of me and have contributed to who I am, what I do, and where I
am ultimately headed. We are all connected to each other; we are all connected
to the One Divine Source. We are all
ONE.
Happy New Year, everyone.
Let’s celebrate this new year not just today but everyday for the rest
of 2016. Let’s move on with conviction
and passion – seeking what is the best for each one of us. Let us have the courage to determine our
own destiny and not remain a mere pawn in the drama of life. We can be, and we all
are, the directors/producers/actors/creators of our own lives. Let’s take
charge, be accountable for our choices – and make this life a life worth
living. Let’s find and follow our dharma.
I wish you all – the very best of the best.
Peace and Joy to all of you!
Syl
